The work

From October 2022 to February 2025, I built and maintained Bunny.net's marketing platform as the marketing team's sole developer. The work covered new pages, offer flows, calculators, and reusable components that editors could assemble through the CMS.

The high-traffic Gatsby/React platform had significant legacy technical debt. I needed to keep shipping features while making the codebase more reliable and easier to maintain.

How I approached it

I refactored mixed server-rendering and React logic into a maintainable component architecture and standardized styling across the platform. When the existing CMS was discontinued, I migrated its deeply nested content structures so the site could continue using CMS-backed pages.

Performance work focused on expensive GraphQL queries and unnecessary React re-renders. This improved both the build pipeline and the experience visitors had on the published site.

Results

  • Build time reduced from 15 to 4 minutes
  • Improved PageSpeed Insights results to green
  • 100+ CMS components used by editors

The reusable components gave the marketing team a way to create and update content, while the architecture and performance improvements made ongoing development easier.
